We shared the seat in Hyde Park. At lunch-time, watching the people. Those from the offices, like us with sandwiches and rolls. Those in the city for the day with children, playing under the trees. And the tourists, lining up the scenic angle for photos with the rainbow in the fountain.
We watched, without saying a word. Two people alone, sharing the vista. She was still fairly young, but beyond the easy confidence of youth. She watched the parade in front of her, then stood and walked off. But not away. She walked passed the children to the fountain, and stood briefly, and then sat and posed in the scenic angle temporarily left by the tourists. She sat smiling for a photographer who wasn't there. She was posing for another, more satisfying life.
